Sikh man allowed to serve in US Army with full beard, a life of uncut hair, and turban.

On March 22, 2010, Capt. Tejdeep Singh Rattan, a 31-year-old dentist, was scheduled Monday to graduate at Fort Sam Houston after the Army made an exemption to a uniform policy that has effectively prevented Sikhs from enlisting since 1984. Despite the very obvious safety and performance issues a big beard and mass of unshorn hair wrapped in a turban mandated by the Sikh religion, Rattan was allowed to serve on active duty. Dr. Kamaljeet Singh Kalsi, another Sikh, was to attend basic training over the summer.

D.A.G. says: When the army relaxes its standards to accomodate the imaginary friends of the enlisted, this nation is surely doomed. What's next? Letting Amish join the SEALS and exempting them from using night vision? Of course the reason for this is that America's two illegal wars have stretched military reserves thin and that standards must be lowered to allow in replacements. Funny how that works.
