American college student harassed by TSA for having Arabic flash cards

Original Story

Nicholas George, a U.S. citizen from Pennsylvania, was on his way back to college when airport security officers found him carrying English-Arabic flashcards. The Transportation Security Administration questioned him, and a TSA supervisor asked him how he felt about the September 11 attacks, whether he knew “who did 9/11,” and whether he knew what language Osama bin Laden spoke. He was handcuffed and left in a locked cell for two hours before being “abusively” interrogated by two FBI agents, but was never told why he was being detained.
This type of pathetic stupidity, of course, is completely unsurprising from the TSA, being one of Americaís most embarrassing boondoggles since Prohibition.

Public school spies on its students using laptop cameras. Sci-fi? Nope!

Original Story

The Lower Merion School District of Ardmore, Pa. has spied on students and families by what a lawsuit calls “indiscriminate use of and ability to remotely activate the webcams incorporated into each laptop issued to students by the School District.”
Approximately 1,800 students at the district’s two high schools have been given laptops as part of a state and federally-funded “one-to-one” student-to-laptop initiative. One of those students, Blake Robbins, was accused by a Harriton High School official of “improper behavior in his home” and shown a photograph taken by his laptop.
An assistant principal identified as Ms. Matsko confirmed that the district could remotely activate the webcam in students’ laptops ìat any time it chose and to view and capture whatever images were in front of the webcam, all without the knowledge, permission or authorization of any persons then and there using the laptop computer.”
The district, of course, did not tell Robbins or his parents beforehand that their son’s laptop webcam could be activated remotely and there was no mention of the functionality in any of the documentation they received or on the district’s Web site.
Aside from the inherent evil of this domestic espionage program the school has violated the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), and other federal and state statues, including the Pennsylvania Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Act.
Incidentally, this case illustrates the idiotic design of laptop computers. The webcams installed in these computers are built into the upper half and cannot be easily physically disconnected, which is an insulting and helplessness-promoting design decision. In light of this case, a hard disconnect point for the microphone and camera on a computer should be mandated by law.

12 year old handcuffed and arrested for doodling on desk.

Original Story

Twelve-year-old Alexa Gonzalez scribbled “Lex was here 2/1/10″ on her desk Monday. She also wrote “I love my friends Abby and Faith.” The girl says the doodles could have been erased, according to the Daily News.
Moraima Tamacho says her daughter was released several hours after she was taken in handcuffs to a police station.
Education department spokesman David Cantor said the incident shouldn’t have happened, and that common sense should prevail.
Last month, the New York Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit alleging more than 20 instances of wrongful arrests and assaults by school safety officers.
Gonzalez has been assigned eight hours of community service, a book report and an essay on what she’s learned from the experience.

Twelve-year-old Alexa Gonzalez scribbled “Lex was here 2/1/10″ on her desk at an NYC middle school. She also wrote “I love my friends Abby and Faith.” They were done in marker and could have easily been erased. When her “vandalism” was discovered, a goon in uniform handcuffed her and hauled her to a police station where she was detained for several hours. Gonzalez has been assigned eight hours of community service, a book report and an essay on what she’s learned from the experience.

From J: It’s a good thing I didn’t go to school around there. I remember boring holes in my desk with scissors. Why? Because school is unstimulating and meant to stifle the mind. Change that and kids won’t be defacing their desks. But that would require someone in the government to have a brain.

Man convicted of DUI for sleeping at the wheel of his non-functional car.

Original Story

The Supreme Court of Minnesota on January 1, 2010 upheld the drunk driving conviction of a man caught asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle that would not start. On June 11, 2007, police found Daryl Fleck sleeping in his own legally parked car in his apartment complex parking lot. The vehicle’s engine was cold to the touch, indicating it had not been driven recently and the keys were in the center console, not the ignition. The police arrested him, and his blood alcohol level was found to be .18. A few weeks after Fleck’s vehicle was impounded, a police officer tested the vehicle using the keys found in the car’s center console. It was determined the vehicle could not even start.

Thus, Daryl Fleck was convicted by the highest court in Minnesota of a crime he had not committed – drunk driving – and in fact, a crime he could not commit! Now that’s some dumb ass government.

Judge Tommy Munoz forcing your children to carry GPS trackers if they don’t go to school like they’re told to.
Judge Tommy Munoz

Judge Tommy Munoz

Original Story

In Bryan, TX, Justice of the Peace Tommy Munoz is implementing a new strategy for punishing “truants” (aka people who don’t do what the government orders them to do) – forcing them to carry GPS devices at all times.

Says Munoz, “If your son or daughter does not want to get up and go to school, you call my office and I will send the constable to go get them out of bed and bring them to school. Is this intended to embarrass you? Yes it is, because the law says they need to be in school and if they don’t want to get up, well we’re going to get them there.”

To add insult to injury, the parents of the kid who did not go to school are forced to pay court costs. Maybe they should focus more on making school actually stimulating for youths rather than punishing them when they react to the general lousiness of public schools. Nah… that would entail creativity and excellence.

Thanks Genevieve!

Woman ordered confined to hospital bed by judge “for the sake of the child”. Child dies anyway (or possibly as a result).

Original Story

In Tallahassee, FL, Samantha Burton was 25 weeks pregnant and showing signs of a potential miscarriage. Her doctor advised her to go on bed rest for as long as 15 weeks. This was not practical for Ms. Burton as she had two toddlers and a job. She planned on getting a second opinion, but before she could, the doctor informed the state government which had the Circuit Court of Leon County get involved.

By the judge’s order, she was ordered to stay bedridden at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital undergoing any and all tests recommended by her doctor. She requested a change of hospital but was denied, being told by court buffoons that “such a change is not in the child’s best interest at this time.” After three days of hospitalization, she had to undergo an emergency C-section and the fetus was found dead.

So much for the sovereignty of the human body.

Thanks Luke!

Anyone with the name of the doctor, please send it in for free merchandise.

School evacuated over science project mistaken for a bomb.

Original Story

On Jan 15th 2010, a “concerned vice principal” prompted the evacuation of Millennial Tech Magnet Middle School in San Diego. The reason? A student’s science project resembled a bomb. An arson team took photos and X-rays of the empty plastic bottle with wires and determined it was harmless. The mysterious device was in fact a home-built motion detector. The culture of irrational hysteria being promoted by school functionaries is nothing new, but this is still amazing in its stupidity.

Cop pulls gun on law-abiding citizen for carrying a licensed firearm. Incompetent courts throw out citizen’s lawsuit.

Original Story

  • Greg Schubert, a lawyer and licensed firearm owner, was walking in a high crime area of had a pistol concealed under his suit coat, and Mr. Schubert was walking in what the court described as a “high crime area” of Atlanta.
  • At some point police officer, J.B. Stern caught a glimpse of the attorney’s pistol, and he leapt out of his patrol car “in a dynamic and explosive manner” with his gun drawn, pointing it at the attorney’s face.
  • Officer Stern “executed a pat-frisk,” and Mr. Schubert produced his license to carry a concealed weapon.
  • Schubert was disarmed and ordered to stand in front of the patrol car in the hot sun. Eventually, the officer locked him in the back seat of the police car and started to lecture the man, telling him some of his Miranda rights, brought up the possibility of criminal charges and in a blatant display of hubris, lied to Schubert saying that he was “the only person allowed to carry a weapon on his beat.”
  • Stern finally stole Schubert’s firearm permit and drove off.
  • The attorney sued in federal court, but the District Court threw out his suit. Then he appealed, and the First Circuit upheld the District Court’s ruling.  The court held that the stop was lawful and that Officer Stern “was permitted to take actions to ensure his own safety.”
